McCraine Hummus

Jana here with an original hummus recipe!  We really like hummus, as it's a great healthy snack option.  If you were to buy pre-made hummus at the grocery store, it would likely cost $3 - $4.  The estimated cost for this recipe is 75 cents!  What a great cost savings!  There are many different hummus recipes available. After making several different kinds, I experimented with this recipe the other day. I like it better than any other I'd made before!  A lot of hummus recipes have an ingredient called 'tahini'.  (a ground sesame seed paste that is similar to peanut butter)  This recipe saves you from buying tahini, and even though it uses a small amount of peanut butter, you can not taste it at all in the flavoring.  (it just helps with the texture)

McCraine Hummus

1 can garbanzo beans (chick peas), with liquid reserved
1/8 cup natural creamy peanut butter
3 cloves minced garlic
4 teaspoons lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1 small pinch red pepper flakes (less than 1/8 teaspoon - more if you like a spicy flavor)
1 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 cup water
1/4 cup liquid from beans

1. Add all ingredients to blender or food processor, and blend well.

2. Refrigerate and serve as a dip for vegetables, crackers, or chips. You can also use hummus as a spread on a sandwich, such as turkey or chicken.
