Crispy Oven-Baked Fries

What a treat these fries are! Truly delicious, healthy, and so much better than fast-food fries. How do I know this? I happened to have some fast-food fries for lunch the same day I made these for dinner. Unhealthy decision-I know. However, on the bright side-it did give me the opportunity to truly compare the taste of my homemade fries with those of the local fast-food joint and I can easily say the homemade version were so, so much better!
These fries are also a cinch to make, and would make a great side along with fish (think: fish and chips), burgers, or hot dogs.

Crispy Oven-Baked Fries
Ingredients:
2 baking potatoes (You can use more or less, depending on the size of the crowd you're feeding! This fed my husband and I, as well as a few to my 13-month old. We still had some left over)
Olive oil
Salt
Pepper

Directions:
Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees.
Slice potatoes length-wise to a width of about half an inch.  Really, you can make these as thick or thin as you like.  You'll just need to pay more attention to make sure they don't burn if you slice them really thinly.

Combine 1 TB olive oil, a dash of salt and pepper, and sliced potatoes in a bowl.  Mix well.

Layer a cooling rack on top of a non-stick cookie sheet and then spread the potato slices evenly on the cooling rack.  The purpose of the cooling rack is to ensure the fries are cooked evenly and the crispiness is uniform, not just on one side.

Bake fries for 30-40 minutes in the oven, depending on your crispiness preference.

ENJOY!
Sara :)

  1. I tried this last night. We loved them. They were so easy with no frustrations with potatoes sticking to the pan. I sprayed a little bit of cooking spray on the cooling rack before placing potatoes on the rack. (I really like your blog!) Donna

  2. Great tip Donna! I will have to try the cooking spray on the rack next time too. Glad you enjoyed these. We are having them again soon! :)
