Baked Spice Apples

Jana here with a really yummy way to serve baked apples!  I used Granny Smith and Gala varieties this time, and although both were good, we preferred the Granny Smith apples.  This is a very quick recipe to put together, and is easy to adjust according to taste preferences! I based this recipe off of an idea found here.

Baked Spice Apples

3-4 apples, cut in half
1/2 cup quick cook oatmeal
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup flour (of choice)
1/4 cup chopped pecans*
1/4 cup raisins*
1/4 cup butter, melted
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ginger
pinch of salt

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Prepare the apples by cutting in half, and removing the seeds/stem with a metal spoon.  It should leave a decent sized hollowed out spot to add the filling to!

2. In a medium sized bowl, mix together the oatmeal, brown sugar, flour, pecans, raisins, spices, and melted butter.  Stir until well combined.

3. Fill and top the apple halves with mixture.  (they can be placed on a baking sheet, or in a baking dish)  Cook for approximately 30 minutes, or until apples have reached desired softness.

Enjoy!
