Crock-it Lock-it Review & Giveaway!

Jana here with a new product I want to introduce you to.  I recently got to review the Crock-it Lock-it product, and am really excited to share this with you all!  If you've ever traveled somewhere with food in your slow cooker, you know that it is a challenge to make it to your destination without the food spilling out of your slow cooker!  I've personally spilled chili from my slow cooker onto the carpets of  my vehicle, and it was difficult to remove the food and the smell afterwards!  So, to solve this problem, there is a product called Crock-it Lock-it!  It not only locks the lid in place, it also provides a sturdy handle for you to carry your slow cooker!  It also helps you carry your hot slow cooker without burning your hands.  So many benefits to this product!

This is how the product looked when I first got it. I love that it folds up into a small size for easy storage.
There are instructions on the back that clearly describe how to attach the product to your slow cooker. Even with 3 young children making lots of noise and distraction around me, I was able to figure this out quickly. :)  This is a universal crock pot carrier, and is easily adjustable for different sizes.
I tested it out one night with a big pot of chili, and was very pleased with how tightly it held the lid on, and how secure it felt while I was carrying it!  There's even a clip on the top to hold a ladle!  This product is very helpful, and I would highly recommend it.

We are giving away a Crock-it Lock-it to one of our readers! Enter below!  Contest ends at 12 a.m. on 3/25!

"Return To Sunday Dinner" Book Review

As part of Thomas Nelson's group, BookSneeze, bloggers are able to receive a free copy of a book, in exchange for our honest opinion of the book.  When I see a cookbook that is available, I am always excited to have the opportunity to review something, and hopefully gain inspiration for new recipes to try!

When I received "Return to Sunday Dinner: The Simple Delight of Family, Friends, and Food", I was already so pleased with the appearance of the cover.  The striking photography, colorful stripes, and the wording was appealing right away!  As I began to read the introduction, I liked Mr. Cronkite's vision for this cookbook immediately.  One of his main goals for this book is to remind the reader of their own memories of Sunday dinners.  This will look very different for various people, but for most of us, there was some form of gathering with family and friends that took place.  A time of fellowship and rest.  This tradition has faded slowly through the years for many families, and Mr. Cronkhite is encouraging the reader to revive the Sunday dinner!

Each chapter is clearly labeled with a Title, and what menu items will follow.  There are many unique chapters and meal ideas, and this book would suit many different tastes.

The photography in the book is beautiful!  It makes the reader excited to try the recipes, and it almost seems as if you can smell some of the delicious foods through the pages!

Another feature of this cookbook that I really love is the section at the end of each chapter titled 'Easy Time-Saving and Do-Ahead Tips.  It specifies things that can be done on Saturday night, and also Sunday morning, to make the meal prep for Sunday dinner much easier!

I really like the concept of this book.  I agree with Mr. Cronkhite that Sunday dinner is a fading concept, and needs to be revived!  So, invite your friends and family, and share a time of food, fellowship and rest with one another!

"Farm Fresh Southern Cooking" Review

Jana here with a review of a cookbook that I received recently.  Thomas Nelson, the publisher, has a blog group, Book Sneeze, that allows bloggers to receive a free copy of one of their books (they have a certain number of books a month that are available), in exchange for an honest review.  I was excited to see a cookbook as one of the options this month, especially when I saw the title: "Farm Fresh Southern Cooking - Straight from the Garden to your Dinner Table". (by Tammy Algood) My family and I have grown a garden for several years now, and I was looking forward to new recipes to use the vegetables we harvest!   The book is visually appealing, and would make a great cookbook to have out on display as well!  It is just under 300 pages, and it is filled with a wonderful variety of dishes that make you eager to start cooking!

The pages in the cookbook are very easy to read, and there are beautiful pictures throughout!  I even found a farmers market that is near my area (Fayetteville, Arkansas) on one of the feature pages!  There are other southern events featured throughout the cookbook, making the book really fun to 'read', as opposed to just searching for a recipe!

Before each section, there is a separate table of contents that specifies what will be included.  Although the content titles are what you would expect from this cookbooks (Appetizers, Soups, Salads, Sides, Breads, Entrees, Desserts, Breakfast and Brunch), there is also a small portion with Canning Instructions.  The recipes that you will find within these categories are very unique!  There are many that I have not heard of before, but can't wait to try!
